Additional personnel included longtime collaborator Eric Wilson, Kathryn Brawley Suda (who sang on TRIALS), Justice Naczycz (played in The Secret Service, plays in Mystic Light Casino as well as my current live band), and the disembodied voicemail was brilliantly left by Heather Hein.
So, I’m not gonna lie … the idea of playing a day show is extremely appealing to me, ESPECIALLY when it means I can bring a great band to town. The Empty Room was one of the acts I met while on my Tiny Tour last September, and I’ve been dying to bring them to town. Thus, Freaksgiving was born!
Could it possibly become an annual tradition? I’d like to think so. For this maiden voyage, we’re going to enjoy the musical stylings of Ben Ricketts (Oxford, MS), The Empty Room (Louisville, KY), my own band, and The Margins. I mean, and it’s happening on a Sunday and you know you’re not reeeeallly doing anything.
TRIALS (and the remix companion, TRAILS) was a great success, and I sold nearly every copy. Imagine my surprise when the new album started writing itself … so album number four is underway.
I’ll be releasing EPs with early versions of the songs from the album. Each will see release on the solstices and equinoxes, starting with this year’s Winter Solstice. I’m very excited about the songs already in the works, and I think you’ll enjoy them too.
2019 will also, hopefully, see more shows out of town (back to Kentucky, I hope, and a return to Indiana/Illinois).
