LYRICS – The Pacific EP

For Old Friends
Our friends help us through the toughest times…

Helped me hang on through seasons in Hell
We drank up this town, and we rang the bells
O Sarah and Mitchell, Robert and Jamie
Were patient and willing to stay with me (with me)

Thank you for the days, and days to come
These days are numbered for me and everyone

How did I get here? A place that is better
Old friends and radio, through doubts and droughts
And for every ZIP code and they stories they tell
I walked through the minefields, got sick and got well.

(repeat chorus)

Thank you, everyone.

The Pacific
I first saw the Pacific Ocean shortly after my 41st birthday. We live in a cruel world, but there are still awe-inspiring sights to be had.

Reach out with your eyes, study the curvature
Horizon meets sky without a dividing line

And I can’t remember how it felt to see the stars for the first time,
But I’ll remember the endless ocean in the middle of my life
The middle of my life

Searching for the spark to lead away from the terror
Waiting outside of my privileged life
I find my mind is still, and now my eyes are open
Look at this luxury, but it’s time for the curse to be broken

And I can’t remember how it felt
But I’ll remember this endless ocean in the middle of my life
And I can’t remember how it felt to see the stars for the first time,
But I’ll remember the endless ocean for the rest of my life
And grateful for this life, I’m grateful for this life
This life.

Shooting Holes
The parking lot of the Traymore apartments is shared with a Rite Aid. This song was written in 2008 on a Saturday.

I’m staring back at you in the light of the parking lot
My thoughts just passing through – tonight, you’re all I’ve got
Sometimes it makes no sense, pursed lips in self-defense
Come down from the fence you straddle, tonight we’ll shine

Like stars that hide beneath the clouds tonight
Shooting holes in the sky beneath the clouds tonight
